a Call for Projects to foster innovation in the energy sector

How does the call for projects work?

Watts Up? is a call for projects launched by EnovArk that aims to address real-world energy network challenges through collaboration and the sharing of ideas, knowledge, and resources across traditional organizational boundaries. The goal is to tackle the problems faced by energy stakeholders with innovative ideas or technologies.

I learn about the concrete challenges proposed by the challenge partners and read the rules of the call.

Summer

I submit my application for one or more challenges before midnight on Wednesday, September 10, by filling out the following form.

Early October

The jury selects the most relevant solutions (based on the criteria outlined in the rules).

Mid-October

I am informed of the jury’s decision.

If my project is selected, I pitch it to the jury. 

If my project is awarded, I win a prize worth CHF 20’000, including CHF 10’000 in cash to further develop my solution.

The call for projects in detail

This call for projects is open internationally to all companies, start-ups, institutions, or project leaders involved in or looking to enter the energy sector. Proposed solutions must be deployable with the challenge partner and demonstrate a clear intent to ensure long-term development, implementation, and sustainability. 

Jusqu’à trois lauréats pourront être récompensés, chacun remportera un prix d’une valeur totale de CHF 20’000 comprenant : 

  • Un montant en cash d’une valeur de CHF 10’000 pour le développement de la solution
  • Un accompagnement par EnovArk d’une valeur de CHF 10’000
  • La mise à disposition d’infrastructures-test sur le terrain et un suivi de la solution par le porteur de challenge

Infrastructure

Access to real-world testing infrastructures and solution monitoring by the challenge partner 

A pre-selection will verify the eligibility of submissions and assess the technical and commercial feasibility of proposed solutions. Each challenge partner will then evaluate the applications relevant to their challenge and decide whether to proceed (go/no-go). 

The applications that pass these two steps will be reviewed by a jury, which will select the finalists. These finalists will pitch their projects to the jury on October 28, after which the winner will be chosen. 

To be considered, all required fields in the application form must be completed. Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria: 

  • Relevance to the expressed need 
  • Added value and appropriateness of the solution 
  • Innovative or creative aspects 
  • Technical feasibility 
  • Economic and development potential 
  • Quality of the application 
  • Ability of the team to bring the project to life 

The jury consists of four independent experts from the energy sector, not affiliated with the challenge partners.  

The jury members: 

  • Evaluate the relevance and potential of the proposed solutions 
  • Participate in the project pitches during the selection process 
  • Select and award up the winner
